Low Oil pressure

Low Oil pressure
We have a 1997 Saturn SL2 with 114000 miles on it. We have done regular maintenance on it and have had no problems. Recently, the engine races for a few seconds upon starting it up, and the oil pressure gauge stays on for 10 seconds or so. I check it regularly, and it stays on Full.
We took it to a mechanic, who said the engine was junk and needed replaced. He said the main seals were probably bad. Anyone else have any other experiences with this? I can't believe that an new oil pump or a sensor would not fix the problem. No problems, keep the oil changed every 3000 and then Bam! New engine?!

if the oil is full the main seals are likely fine.
if the engine runs fine it is likely not trashed (no clanking/knocking/thunking)
test and replace oil sender (as appropriate)
If you truly do not have sufficient oil pressure for 10 seconds at every startup, you will quickly damage your engine -- so address this ASAP if you want to ensure the continued existence of your engine.
And stay away from bobsnosehairlaserremovaloutlet&autorepair, as they are not saturn experts
