What kind of manual transmission fluid do I need to use for my 2002 Saturn SL2? I''m going to change it. Also, what is the best way to flush it?

Also, should I use synthetic or not? I always use synthetic oil for the engine but don''t know much about transmissions and how sensitive they are to the oil used.

The manual transmission takes ATF fluid. Just drain and fill. You can use synthetic if you like, but not necessary.

I don''''t mean to complicate something that probably shouldn''t be complicated, but why would I use ATF fluid if my car is a manual transmission?

Because thats what the manufactuer of the transmission tells us to use. Thats what its designed for, so thats whats used.
