Need help - 2000 SL1 running rich P0172
#1
I am new to the forum but have been a Saturn owner for a few years. I have a 2000 SOHC SL1 that has 140K on the body. I replaced the engine 2 weeks ago with one from a reputable yard that claimed it had only 22,305 miles on it. It looked like it to. Anyways I replaced the old engine because it was going through 1 quart of oil every 300 miles.
Long story short the old engine was running ragged and the check engine light stayed on. I replaced the engine with the low mileage one and it came with all new sensors, etc... The new engine started off running awesome but after if got hot it would start spitting and sputtering in low RPM''s. I researched the forum here and replaced the coolant temp sensor and both O2 sensors. I also purchased and replaced the fuel injectors and thermostat. The car also has brand new plugs and wires. It still runs rough and throws a code P0172 which is bank 1 is too rich. Im running out of ideas on this one. Is there something else I could be overlooking?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

sounds like a possible air leak or a bad air flow sensor. Because if you are running rich and its sputtering that bad then is must be either getting a faulty intake air flow reading or it is loosing air comming in through a leak. Possibly in the intake piping or manifold area. Check the gaskets on the manifold as well

Hi there
I have the same problem with my 2001 SL1. Am ancious to hear how yours turnes out. WIll keep you informed If I find the answer. I had a severe bucking problem last year and it was a pluged cat converter. My spitting problem like yours started this spring/early summer.
