Noob here ... how to change heater air recirculation motor
Hello all ... I am brand new here so I am not really sure about posting guidelines. Since I am not really positive what to call the part I have to change, I don't know how to search for what I am looking for. So, if this topic has been covered before, please accept my apology for not finding it. My apologies also for this post being a bit long-winded. I wanted to give you as much information as possible about my issue.
I am working on a 98 model SC2. Last winter it had the annoying habit of the motor that controls the source for either recirculated air or fresh air started running nonstop and cycling the attached flap between the two positions (open/closed) no matter what position the pushbutton next to the A/C button was in as long as the fan speed control was in any position except the "off" position.
Until someone corrects me with the correct name for the motor, I will simply call it "motor". Until someone corrects me with the correct name of the source control switch I will simply call it the SCS.
Now, no matter the position of the SCS the motor does not function. The light in the SCS operates normally, but the motor does not function. The flap attached to the motor responsible for diverting the air is stuck in the fresh air position. I live in Texas and we have had a bout of 105 degree days and I am sure there are more to come. I bring this up because the result of the broken motor is that I now have 105 degree fresh air entering the A/C blower housing which overpowers the cold air coming from the A/C unit. So, as long as the temperature is over 90 degrees outside the cabin of my SC2 never cools off.
Tomorrow I am going to block off the fresh air opening under the windshield wiper cowl using a piece of a plastic one gallon milk jug and some metal A/C duct tape.
What I want to know is has anyone ever changed this motor without removing the dash? I may have to remove the dash anyway because the 2 center vents only blow a whisper of air while the outside 2 vents blow pretty strong. I have been told this is a symptom of the 2 inside vents foam sealing gaskets dry rotting?
