Hey All, Just a generic Question, I'd just like to hear what everyone else thinks. I know Some people still say to change oil ever 3 months/3000 miles, And some do it twice a year.
I know that Saturns have oil Burning problems (I've hear, and seen for myself, my '02 SL1 does burn oil, but at a slow enugh rate that it hasn't worried me)

So, My question is About the Oil life Monitoring System. The Owners manual says it computes the quality of your oil based on engine temperature, RPM's and some other stuff. When (approximetly) Would this light go on? And is it ok to wait for it to go on before changing oil?

I disagree, depending on what oil you use you can stretch it out quite a bit further then 3k. However burning oil would make a difference on this one.

Glad to see someone is a little more realistic. I'm at school (away from home) and hate to pay for an oil change. I figure I can do one at 4months, with mabey 3500 miles. I use non-synthetic 5-30, Should I be all right?

and i disagree with you. Saturns burn oil, the oil ring gums up, by keeping fresh oil in the engine you help prevent that. 2500-3500 is the longest id go. UNLESS i use amsoil. but im gonna stick to my semi synthetic.

kthxbye

Not only should you change your oil every 3,000miles, but if your burning it as well- you should be titrating to keep the oil level on the dip stick on full. The combination of increasing oil change intervals and allowing oil levels to drop can increase the oil control ring problems these cars are noted for.
