You dont have to pull the motor out, but it would make it much easier just having it out and not having to lend on to the front of your car. You can take the head off and and the oil pan. Loose the Pistons and pull them from the top of the block and make sure you bore the piston holes and get new bearings.

i sold the car the thing is you cant u must pull the motor. the timing chain cover is in ur way and so is the crank pully you also have the flywheel. there is 5/18 bolts you cant get to. thanks for the info though

I would figure an ASE certified "Master mechanic" would know a simple question like that. Or at least someone who owns 3 shops and builds 11.1 second Civics and 7 second T/A's.

i did but there are always short cuts, and guess what there would have been but there was 3 flywheel fex plate bolts that wouldnt let me do that besides you need to pull the trans and the engine as a hole. BET YOU DIDNT KNOW THAT but hey ase people still ask questions and read books. any good tech could tell you that!

Actually, I did know that.It's funny what you can learn from a Chiltons manual. But your not just an ASE certified mechanic. You a certified "Master" mechanic.

Yes, you should be able to pull the pistons through the head by removing the oil pan. Piece of cake, really [img]smileys/smiley1.gif[/img]
Best time for all of this would be during an oil change, you're down by the oil pan anyways [img]smileys/smiley16.gif[/img]
