Default Saturn 99 SL1 has no power

Was going up hill and car lost power. Starting making a kind of sputtering sound, along with a ting, ting sound. When I put my foot down on the gas it would hardly go faster than 20 MPH. It wouldn't give any more power than that and that was really forcing it.

Please let me know where is the best place to start to fix this.

Thank you

go to autozone or similar and get the codes read for free.
Get the actual code numbers (Pxxx) not the descriptions of the codes

post them here and we'll try to hellp

was the SES light steady or flashing or both at different times

How many miles do you have on it? Could be a clogged cat con.

Great thank you so much!!!

I turned car on again and it idled fine but when I put it in gear in began sputtering and had hardly any power again. Then I put it back to idle and idle was sputtering a little after.

The SES light didn't come on until after I put it in gear and it was flashing.

Do the codes have a name? Or do I just ask for Saturn's SL1 codes?

I seriously appreciate your help!!!

Thank you so much!!

You don't have to be specific about it being a Saturn. Just go in and ask them to run the codes on your car for you. They can give you a print out after running them, if the person doing it isn't too lazy. Take a note pad and pen with you, just in case. That way you can write them down and post them here.

Codes, as in the digits, not what some person tells you what the codes mean.
