service engine soon light
#1
i just bought a saturn 1995 sl2. it started running hot and i noticed the fan was not running. i changed the gauge sensor and the fan sensor. the fan runs and it doesnt get hot hot any more but now when the fan comes on the service engine soon light comes on. i was thinking maybe the thermostat might not be letting the coolant through and making th light come on, but i am not sure. if any one has any ideas that i could check it would be much appreciated. i really dont want to take it to a mechanic if i dont have to. it would save me alot of money. thanks

The saturns are known for the ect going bad, if it has original one with plastic tip, change it with one from saturn dealer, that is engine coolant sensor, it is in head at drivers side on bottom it has two wires going to it, should be yellow and black, do not attempt to change with engine hot, cold is best. you gan go to http://www.saturnfan.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=21 they have site that is good for info. check it out. you will have to go off this site to get to it so write it down.Edited by: softspot

If you have a modified fan system to keep the temp down lower than what the factory set-up (fan on @ 229 degrees) There is noting wrong. The PCM is programed to turn on the fan at 229. If the fan is being switched on before 229 and runs for more than 10 seconds, the PCM thinks there is something wrong. I have my 95 SL set-up to come on at 210 to keep my temp down when I'm jammed up in traffic.
