Wait until night time, then turn your lights on, and then go to the back of the car, and compare the amount of light from the left side and then the right side -- any difference?

A common problem is having a bulb plugged into the socket backwards. A lot easier when corrosion is involved but if you are ham fisted enough you can force it.
This referrs to a bulb that is dual filament and serves as both a brake and tail light bulb with two **** on the base of the bult at different levels.
check both sides.
