tire pressure go higher !!
Im bringing this topic up on tire pressure because i been
hearing too many different opinions on this topic on other
forums ok my 96 saturn tells me on the door jam to put 26
in rear and 30 in front i have a friend thats a master technition
he says no run higher air pressure hes telling me to run whats close to
on the sidewall of the tire well the tires are a factory size of
175/70 R 14 that are motomaster brand the air pressure printed on
the sidewall is 44 p.s.i he says to inflate them to 38 psi or even
40 psi when i asked why he would go against what the manufacturer
says on the door he said do you wanna replace tires soon. or do you
whant them to last i said what? he says all this talk about going by
whats on the side door pressure is bull sit!! you can run a higher
air pressure and No! your tires wont wear in the middle. i said but
the manufacturer states on the door to run those air pressures
again he says its b.s "listen tire manufactures are in business to
sell you tires the faster you wear them out the better because
your buying new ones again a tire with 30 psi is mushy and wears
fast this was his argument" and im starting
to beleive him because i have re-checked my air pressure
wich has been set for 38 psi for the past 3 months and no wear is
showing up in the midlle of the tires amazingly!..? it all looks good!!
the funny part is the ride at first when the pressures were set to
38 psi were a little hard but as time whent on the ride softened out
so it got softer as time whent on. i never would of beleived him if
i didnt try it for my self and i gota say it does work so higher air
pressure gets my thumbs up try it your car will handle better too.

Tire pressures are a trade off between service life of the tire and ride comfort as designed into your car. Rightly or wrongly, Saturn felt they needed a softer tire to properly match up with their design and handling. Granted, you can (and apparently are) running pressures that exceed vehicle specifications, but that is your choice. Will it affect the handling of your car? I would expect that it would, to some extent. As for the car "softening" its ride under the firmer tire, I (imho) suspect that it's more like your butt is getting used to the harsher ride .........

Lemme see, I like the part about the butt getting used to the harsher ride. There is more truth in that then not.
The other part on the side wall of the tire that you did not read was the part that said something like supports XXXX amount of weight at 44# pressure. Now if you knew exactly how much weight that tire actually carrying AND had a chart to put exactly the right amount of air in that tire to support the weight being carried than you could argue I guess that increasing the pressure would be a good idea. But increasing the pressure to maximum listed pressure on the side of the tire is not a good idea by itself.
I'd go by the pressure recommended by the door tag. If I wanted too I might add up to an extra 4# or so cold just to make long high speed runs such as a 500 mile run down the interstate with at 75mph on a 110 degree day, or carrying extra heavy loads with, but on the whole I would not worry about it too much.
