Default Traction control on 95 SL1?

I have a 1995 SL1 which I use for racing on dirt. It has a manual trans, and a SOHC engine. I raced for the first time last weekend and had no speed on the straightaways. A buddy of mine said the problem could be the traction control is killing the engine too much because of the wheel spin. So my question is: Does this car have traction control? If so, how do I disable this. And if this is not the problem any ideas on what the problem could be?
Thanks in advance for any help

The problem could be that you're gonna blow the differential pin through the tranny housing if you keep dirt racing.

You have been duly warned.

Don't believe traction control was available in 1995 -- it was in 97 (have it on my 97 SC2 but not my 95)....Anyone? Anyone?

You have no speed on the straightaways b/c the SOHC has no real umpf to it....revs like hell but can't get out of its own way.

How do the other cars look while they are passing you?

WRT traction control ... my '93SW2 has it. There's a lighted disable button on the center console underneath the radio. Pressing the button disables the traction control.

However, this is not a "set and forget" button. Traction control system defaults to the "ON" mode at engine start
