Hey guys, I got a question for ya, my GF father drives a 97'' SL2 Automatic. He has no reverse and sometimes its hard for the 1st gear go to second. Do you guys think its the solenoid is messed up or is it the torque converter?

Well , I''m not a repairman, or a transmission guru, but it seems to me that the torque converter is ok, or it wouldn''t go anywhere. The solenoids and valving the direct the fluid through the transmission would be my suspicion. Pull the transmission dipstick and take a sniff at the fluid - does it smell "burnt"? If so, then the clutch disks for the different gears may be bad

Again - strictly my humble opinion .....

possible valve body issue. but it sounds more like the input shaft nut came loose.very common on the s series. have to pull the side cover off and retorque nut. i sugguest you bring to the dealer.
