Today I was driving along and hit a nasty bump, looked back and noticed
that the trunk was open. I stopped and approached, ready to close when I
noticed that the bottom half of the latch was still attached to the top. The
bottom ripped free of the body bolts and everything. I think this is due to a
bad trunk seal, there was very minor rust around the hardware but it
could''ve weakened the metal.

Anybody have any ideas on fixing this, estimates? I''m thinking of just
welding the bastard, considering it''s up for inspection I go forward
tentatively with this plan and hope for an alternative.

Its a 1991-1996 coupe right? Honestly a replacement trunk panel would be the best bet. Unless you have welding skills.

97 SC2, my buddy said that the steel grade and thinness of the metal makes
it nearly impossible to weld.Edited by: RIGMFan

Wow, I''ve never seen this happen to a 97+.

But it can be welded, I''ve done it.
