Hi everyone,

My 04 VUE recently started making a humming\whining noise. Its really noticeable when approaching speeds of 50 mph or greater and when I''m slowing down. Any idea?

Engine/trans?? AWD?

Does it hum when its not moving? Need more info to be sure but it sounds like a bad wheel bearing...

Its a 2.2 4cyl VTi engine. It only occurs when the car is moving or slowing down. When the car is at idle, its fine. I was thinking it could''ve been the bearings. About how much would you figure replacing a rear wheel bearing would cost?

I''d say it was the VTI

Didn''t realize it was a VTi, they''re always suspect as they haven''''t had a good repair history, although not all are bad.

Since I''''m an optimist, I''ll presume that its your rear wheel bearing - figure about $400 if you have a mechanic do the repair.

Well I''m sure its not my engine. It has under 60,000 miles on it. I think your right about the bearing... I guess I''ll have to take it back to the saturn dealership

It was the wheel barrings. I just got it back from the dealership yesterday. Both rear wheel barrings were bad. The job cost about $690 but my warranty covered majority of it.
