Thanks for the information that was a very well written response. And you are right the only OBD-II protocol car I have is the Chrysler and at the present it has not presented me a reason to interrogate the computer system that runs it. As I plan on keeping it for a while yet it probably will at some time or another.
I have held off purchasing a scanner for it until such time that I actually need one. Figuring the software of the scanners will be come more versatile and more cost effective as time passes.
I have picked up an older Snap on scanner that covers the age of the other two cars that will need them and in using it, it is amazing what kind of technology that is represented.
It makes one wonder if things have not gotten just a bit far out on some of this stuff.
And why it might be just a waste of money to buy a 10 year old used car. If you do not have the money to be able to read the codes out of the thing, which is not a big stretch to assume if for no other reason than if you had any money at all you would have bought something newer in the first place.
The day of being able to crutch a $500.00 junk yard car into operation might be coming to an end.

Results, Martin?

Surely, you'll stop back in to tell us whether all of our research was useful for you or if we were still off the mark.

Either way, we'd like to either help you close this out or know how you DID close it out.

Thanks
