Purchase question 07 Vue
I am posting this for a friend. I was directed here when I couldn't find my beloved SaturnFans forum! This is what he asked me to ask you:
I am considering the purchase of a 2007 Saturn Vue (100K miles) with 6-cylinder, 3.5L engine and AWD.
Is the 3.5L, 6-cylinder engine when properly maintained a long-term reliable engine?
Is the AWD transmission set-up reliable and long lasting? How many miles would you expect it could serve when maintained.
Does the AWD system work reliably for towing loads up to the towing limit of 3,500 lbs?
Thanks,
Lizzy

yes, it has a Honda engine but he doesn’t know about the transmission. This is the VIN: 5GZCZ63417S808990
He’s mostly concerned about the towing ability. He currently has an older Saturn Vue which he regularly tows with, but the frame is rusted out so won’t pass inspection.

2004 to 2007
The Honda J53A3 V6 , also known as the 3.5L GM L66 was used for all V6 engines that went into the Vue.
A variation of the Honda h5 transmission was coupled to the engine, the version being determined by weather it was AWD or FWD.
Assuming it was not a 2002 or 2003 he owned, you should be fine. Actually if it was, he's probably better off with this one.
No one can say for sure how long anything's going to last. And if he's buying it used, he cannot be certain about the maintenance unless he's buying it from somebody who knows.
For any vehicle over 100k I suggest requesting the full service records. Anyone meticulous enough to document everything is also probably meticulous enough to actually perform the activity.
People really loved those vehicles. Maybe there are others that know more about the reliability of the engines and transmissions. But if the frame is solid I would not think you would have difficulty towing.
Just make sure somebody didn't butcher where the tow hitch needs to go or he won't be able to hook up a new one.
